Kenya is the original home of the African safari (safari means travel in Swahili). Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve is Africa’s Number One Park due to the annual wildebeest migration, one of the last big migrations in the animal world and one of the most breath-taking events earth!
The Great Wildebeest Migration moves from the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to the Masai Mara Game Reserve in the neighbouring Kenya.
The migration involves large herds of wildebeest, the Burchell's Zebras, the Thomson's gazelles, the Elands, Topis, Impalas, African Buffalos, Grant's gazelle, Kongonis, giraffes, the warthogs, waterbucks, elephant and other herbivores as they follow an annual circular route around the Serengeti Ecosystem in an endless quest for fresh pastures and water.
As the large herd of the wildebeest and other herbivores move across the Serengeti and Mara plains hungry predators - most notably lions, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, and jackals, as well as every scavenger of the plains – either lay in wait in the bushes or follow the herbivores all along their clockwise migratory route.
Hundreds of tourists flock Mara in July and August to watch the spectacular episode of thousands of wildebeests and zebras swimming across crocodile-infested Mara River. The Mara River is deep and fast-flowing - a dangerous obstacle for the herds and many will drown or and mauled by the fat African crocodiles during the crossing stampedes.
Whatever your dream, a Kenyan tour is your utmost African safari adventure.
